What to Expect at USTMA

Starting something new can be intimidating. Here's exactly what happens from the moment you sign up to the day you earn your first belt.

The Process

From Sign-Up to Black Belt

01

Sign Up for a Free Trial

Fill out our online form or call us to schedule your first visit. We'll find a class time that works for your family. No commitment, no pressure — just come see what real Taekwondo looks like.

02

Meet Your Instructor

Before your first class, you'll meet the instructor, tour the facility, and learn what to expect. We want you to feel comfortable before you step on the mat. This is a real introduction — not a sales pitch.

03

Your First Class

Wear comfortable athletic clothing — a t-shirt and sweatpants are perfect. We train barefoot. Your instructor will guide you through basic techniques at your own pace. No prior experience needed.

04

Experience the Full Week

Your free trial includes a full week of classes. This gives you and your child time to experience the training, the culture, and the community. You'll know by the end of the week if USTMA is the right fit.

05

Enroll and Begin

Choose your program and schedule, purchase your dobok (uniform), and start your journey. Monthly tuition, no long-term contracts. We'll place you in the right class based on your age and experience.

06

The Journey to Black Belt

From white belt forward, you'll progress through the Kukkiwon belt system — earning each rank through dedication, not time. The journey to black belt typically takes 3 to 5 years of consistent training.

02
Belt System

The Kukkiwon Belt System

USTMA follows the official World Taekwondo belt progression certified through Kukkiwon in Seoul, South Korea. Each rank is earned through demonstrated skill, knowledge, and character.

Yellow Belt
Green Belt

Black Belt

Intermediate ranks (stripes) exist between each major belt level. Black belt ranks (dan) are certified internationally through Kukkiwon. The journey from white to black belt typically takes 3–5 years.
